Added rose hips provide additional antioxidant support! How Does NSI®Vitamin C Work?Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is necessary for normal growth and maintenance of the human body. It plays a part in the development and repair of all bodily tissues and is crucial for healing wounds and repairing cartilage, bones and teeth.Vitamin C is also involved in the production of collagen, used to make skin, ligaments, tendons and blood vessels.Vitamin C is one of nature's most powerful antioxidants, working to protect the body from harmful free radical molecules which may contribute to both aging and disease. It's found in some concentration in all fruits and vegetables, but citrus fruits, strawberries, cantaloupe, tomatoes, broccoli, potatoes and leafy greens are the best sources. As a water-soluble vitamin, vitamin C is not stored in the body and must be regularly replaced through diet or supplementation (the body cannot make it on its own). Deficiency is rare, but smoking, stress and certain illnesses can cause reduced levels. Supplementing with vitamin C is well-known to help strengthen the immune system. One study, published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, found that high-doses (1,000 mg to 6,000 mg) of vitamin C were able to reduce the severity and duration of common-cold symptoms (when taken at onset) by up to 21 percent. ¹The immune-boosting effects of vitamin C may also be helpful for fatigue/metabolism, wound/infection healing and allergy issues.Vitamin C's antioxidant properties may account for its heart-health benefits. Research shows that vitamin C, when taken with vitamin E (also an important antioxidant), can help prevent oxidation of LDL ("bad") cholesterol, which contributes to plaque buildup in coronary arteries. It may also help with the maintenance of healthy blood pressure levels. ¹ Hemila H & associates.Vitamin C and the common cold: a retrospective analysis of Chalmer's review. Journal of the Ameri ...
