Powerful antioxidant that may offer protection against free-radical damage. How Does NSI® IP-6 Inositol Hexaphosphate Work? Inositol Hexaphosphate (IP-6) is a naturally-occurring nutrient found in certain dietary fibers including grain (rice, wheat, oat, corn), legumes, nuts and seeds. Also known as phytic acid, IP-6 is a rich source of phytate compounds that inhibit oxidative reactions initiated by iron (one of the major contributors to the spread of free radicals in the body). Researchers believe that IP-6 may be responsible for the benefits of high-fiber diets, including immune health, cardiovascular health and blood sugar level maintenance. However, IP-6 rarely occurs in soluble fiber but is instead attached to the bran (the hard, soluble fiber), making it difficult for the body to digest. Therefore, nutrition experts recommend obtaining IP-6 in supplement form. Studies have shown that IP-6 has protective and growth-regulating effects on cells and tissues including the colon, liver, prostate, lungs, breast and skin. IP-6 has been found to increase natural killer (NK) cell activity in mice¹, as well as reduce cell proliferation² and DNA synthesis in immune-damaging cells³. IP-6 may also have beneficial effects on blood sugar level maintenance, similar to the effect of many dietary fibers. Studies have not yet been conducted to confirm this potential effect, however. NSI® IP-6 contains purified inositol hexaphosphate, extracted from rice bran, the preferred source of IP-6. Recommended dosage is between two and four capsules per day. NSI® IP-6 Inositol Hexaphosphate is better because it: Delivers 500 mg of IP-6 per capsule. Offers a more bioavailable source of IP-6 than foods naturally containing the nutrient. ¹ Baten A., Ullah A, Tomazic VJ, Shamsuddin AM.
