Flavonoids and other polyphenols help protect against the oxidation of LDL cholesterol. Anthocyanins, as found in blueberries and grapes, impart bright colors to fruits and are biologically important substances known to protect vision, capillary strength and circulation. Red raspberries, strawberries, and cranberries contain ellagic acid in the form of ellagitannins, which are part of the family of phenolic antioxidant compounds that protect normal cell development. Ellagic acid is a water soluble antioxidant that promotes healthy cell development by shielding DNA from oxidative damage. Berry High has a high ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value (2200 µmoleTE/6 g). Trolox, a water-solubleVitamin E analog, is used as the calibration standard, and the ORAC result is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent (umoleTE) per serving.
